  1. No, you can not fix this with a contrast setting or something. LCD TVs have a limited viewing angle. The vertical and horizontal angles are not always the same. Vertical viewing angles often times are less than the horizontal angles as you are experiencing. Viewing angles can and do differ by make and model. One thing you will find is that the lower priced LCD TVs (like Vizio) generally have a lower viewing angle than the more expensive LCD TVs. This is something you should have picked up on during your product evaluations prior to purchase. Either consider returning this TV for one that better suits your viewing requirements or get a tilting wall mount that allows you to adjust the TV's tilt to help reduce or eliminates this horizontal viewing angle limitation.

  2. The spec sheet you referenced for the Vizio TV indicates a 160 degree viewing angle. I don't know what criteria Vizio uses for measuring this, but I had thought viewing angle was defined as the point at which the luminance declined to 50% of that on-axis.

If you always view the TV at a constant location, you should adjust its tilt so that you are viewing it at a 90 degree (perpendicular) angle. So if it's up on the wall, tilt it down.
