Tweddle not concerned with her mounting age
Beth Tweddle, the 3-time world gymnastics champion hailing from Britain has shrugged off the concerns that by the London Olympics 2012 she might be too old to claim a medal in the event. Tweddle, who has been through her 25th year of age is already
the second oldest contestant on the circuit and by the big event of 2012, she would be 27, a really odd age to participate into a sport like gymnastics.
In an interview with an international sports news channel Tweddle said that people quite often tend to ask about her age and raise their concerns over her ability to participate in London Olympics, let alone bagging a medal from there. “However,” she said
“I am not bothered by these comments or views as I am still enjoying my performance. I have been quite consistent in getting the results; this gives me the confidence to be ready for any big competition. Once I will make it into the Olympics, only then I will
retire from it.”
Despite of what people say about her age, the results depicted from the gymnast have been commendable. Just a few days back she won the World Championship in Rotterdam when two Chinese, her close rivals, could not balance themselves upon the apparatus and
fell down. The performance of Tweddle in the event was classic and hugely praised by the spectators. She not only managed to earn a gold medal for herself, rather she capped the performance of Britain team in a fine way which culminated in helping Louis Smith
and Dan Purvis for winning their medals.
Talking about the performance of her team in the world championship Tweddle said that the event had been amazing for them and there were many reasons behind it. First of all, the results of the championship brought them the national lottery funding, it earned
them the belief and morale boost within the camp as people around them had been winning medals, and of course the satisfaction they had of putting their hard work into the gymnastics.
In the world championship event, the Britain gymnastics team consistently put its efforts for a gradual make up aimed at stepping forward in the event and to keep going with the overall performances.
In an interview she had with an international sports channel 3 years ago, Tweddle was of the view that she would quit gymnastics by 2009. She had decided to participate into the Olympics 2012 as a spectator, but now the girl looks pretty determined to carry
on, at least until she performs in the London Olympics which are now just around the corner.
Prior to the London event, there are a couple of championships in which Tweddle would be representing the team GB. For instance, currently she is preparing to participate into the European championships which would be organized next year. However the focus
of her training is completely there on preparation for 2012. Besides that she is also focusing upon scaling down the training regime to protect her body against the aging signs.
While expressing her thoughts about her preparations she said that though the most relaxing time for her was when some event was over as it allowed her to have a lot of ice baths, but satisfaction could be extracted from trainings as well. She was of the
view that sometimes the training routines were so tiring that she would question herself about what was really important to participate in? However, she said that such kind of thoughts were instantly followed by the vivid feelings of what it looked like when
she had won the gold medal. For her, the moment was too precious and worthy and for getting it back all over again, she could have gone through all the tough and tiring trainings. While concluding her remarks she said that though she was slightly over age
to give the expected performance, but she had an unshakable belief in her training amid which it was not unexpected from her to outdo her rivals in the much awaited 2012 event.
