Question:

Twilight Question, Book and Movie?

I've just finished reading the Twilight Saga, And was aware that a movie is coming out, Towards the end of the year.

I was almost finished new moon when I came across a preview of the movie, and was totally disappointed in myself for watching it because I didn't want to lose my imaginative view of the characters and replace them with those out of the movie, (However I watched it without sound so I wouldn't picture there voices )

(I blocked it out as much as I could)

So my question is Do you think watching the movie will take some of the magic away from the story?

I personally believe that books are always better than the movies that follow them.

Do you think the characters in the movie will replace your own versions of the characters from the book?

I know thats more than one question, but I would like to hear other peoples opinion on this.

Thanks in advance :)

  1. I definitely advise you to finish the series BEFORE seeing the movie. Nothing about it was that bad for me except Edward. I never really decided what he would look like in my mind but Robert Pattinson and his fake gelled imitation-Edward hair is not it.

I think people should be able to realize that the books and the movie are different. The movie is BASED on Twilight, not an exact re-enactment.

I just hope they do not make it tacky and/or corny. That would suck, and ruin the intensity of the books.

  2. I think that you should always read a whole series before watching the movies about them. And yea, seeing them does ruin the experience to a certain degree. And I don't know if I want to watch the movie because I heard the director saying it was based on the book but not the same. Something about how people already read the book and don't want to see it in a movie. I think that that is stupid. If the book was soo wildly popular, then why not try to mimic that success in a movie?

  3. my vision of edward actually was similar to rob pattinson, which is odd.  however, i never pictured kristen stewart as bella; for some reason i always thought bella would be, erm, a little more outcast-looking, like emily brown, more fragile.  if that makes sense.

i read twilight, then i saw the cast so they were in my mind as i read new moon and eclipse, but then i saw the preview and was excited (typical teenage girl)

watchin the movie will be diff cuz the book/series is mainly in bella's perspective, so we lose how bella thinks about edward, like her inside thoughts.

the characters in the movie replaced my version of the character of the book already; guilty as charged

  4. i don't know. i don't plan on seeing the movie because i think it looks like an overly dramatic, vampiric soap opera. but i think watching a movie based on a book can mess with your own imagination. you start to see the movie actors instead of your own characters.

of course in my case, they had already cast the movie when i started reading the books. so i've been picturing kristen stewart and robert pattinson the whole time. my Jacob Black, Carlisle, Alice, Jasper, and Rosalie all look completely different though...sort of i don't really picture them at all.

but i think sometimes a movie can help you if you're having a hard time imagining what something is supposed to look like.

  5. Yes,it might take away some of the magic.

The characters in the movie could replace your own versions or you could picture them just how you did before, after watching the movie.

    Hope i helped. :)

  6. Seeing the movie clips actually didn't change my personal images that I thought/wanted them to look like. I was of course suprised to see the characters for the movie because I thought they looked very different from the ones I had imagined. But I have gotten used to them and think they will make a great movie. Strangely when I went back to finishing the series I never thought about the movie characters the old ones that I imagined still played in my head. I think when I read books I make up my own character and when I see the movie or show later it doesn't affect me. But if I see the movie first like (the series of unfortunate events) and then I decide to read the series that's when the movie affects me. I think it's because the  movie was the first impression you had of the characters and that you can't think of anything else to fit the part except for them so that's when that happens to me. =] I hope it makes some sense...lol

  7. Yes, i think so. I know. That always pisses me off. they movie is worse that the book. should be opposite. oh well, I read twilight-eclipse

i still hav to read breaking dawn.

If you read twlight already, there are now new moon spoilers.

but i get what you mean .

I don't think it will suck, probably ok i guess. i bet stepenie meyers doesnt want to lose all her fans after the movie, otherwise she might like sue them. lol. but seriously, i think it will be pretty good. maybe not like titanic. but not like , idk something bad.

i am lookin forward to the movie though
