Twins’ Joe Mauer looking to revive his career – MLB News
Joe Mauer missed most of the games in 2011 due to various form of injuries. Although he is fully fit this season, the catcher is looking to bring things back on track this season.
According to a leading sports website, the catcher has been training regularly for the last two weeks. He showed up at the Twins Sports Complex at Fort Myers on February 19 and he has worked out regularly since then. The source further added that Mauer caught his first bullpen sessions with three pitchers. Considering he did not catch in the bullpen until March 12 last season, Mauer seems to be on the track to recovery.
Mauer is working extremely hard with the Twins’ coaching staff to bring more improvement in his  catching and hitting techniques. To make the most of available opportunities in the upcoming Spring Training, the 28-year-old is running bases and practicing batting consistently.
"I'm feeling like it's what, Day 12 or Day 11? Feeling like it's like that," he said. "There's always soreness, trying to get your body back into shape, so that's what I'm dealing with right now."
"You know, you're going to do anything you want to do to get ready for the year," Mauer further added. "You've just got to get out there and catch bullpens and get on the field and play, so everything's going pretty good. A lot of people look good in the bullpen; you've just got to step between the lines and see what happens then."
The catcher was very disappointed to miss games last season due to a knee injury. However, he is looking stronger than ever before right now. He had a successful surgery on his knee and he is in a confident mood ahead of 2012 season. Mauer is expected to play in Twin’s first Spring Training game against Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
It will be interesting to see if the catcher can stay healthy and fit for the entire next season to revive his career. The Twins, who were quite ordinary last season to lose 99 games, will also be hoping for him to perform consistently to help the team reach the playoffs in 2012.
