Question:

Twins are driving my wife nuts by not sleeping and fighting back

Nap time and sleep time is a battle between my wife and our 2-1/2 year old twins. Every night they use different tactics to keep from going to bed or staying in bed. More stories, gotta go pee-pee, want to be tucked in... the list goes on and on. We've tried time outs, not talking to them and putting them back in bed (aka Super Nanny), and gently comforting them. Sometimes they have tantrums, other times they just keep getting out of bed. I work long hours and usually get home right before bed time (8pm) then help clean up the house and eat dinner around 9:00 if lucky. Tonight it is 10:30 and they have just fallen asleep. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. umm maybe separate their beds and make them sleep in different rooms? Because if they do it together, they obviously following each other. so if you separate them and make them sleep alone if the cooperate, they would quit the act and fall asleep?

  2. the supernanny thing does work you just have to be consistent it is real life after all not a hour long tv show. just stick with it they WILL get the point

  3. Consistency is the key!  I know when it comes to my kids (ages 8, 6, 4 and 4 months) that if you don't have a consistent routine they walk all over you!!  They know that if you breakdown after a certain point they will push you to that point and they will keep pushing until you give in or teach them that you won't give in!!  It's tough, especially for a mom who is going through bedtime alone (I know this from experience!), but no matter how much of a push-over your wife can be when it comes to your twins she really does have to put her foot down and let them know that enough is enough. It will take time, a lot of time, and probably a lot of tears but as long as she doesn't let them see her breakdown they will learn eventually and they will be greater kids because of it!!  I hope this helps.  Good luck and give your wife my regards for going through this tough milestone!!
