Twirling Candy comes out good in the training sessions, as the colt’s next start is the Pacific Classic at Del Mar
The 4-year-old colt, Twirling Candy, gears up for the $1million Pacific Classic on 28 August, 2011, at Del Mar.
It was decided by owners W S Farish, Martin J Wygod and The Craig Family after her work out at the Del Mar main track. The work out session was done under jockey Joel Rosario at Del Mar on 31 July, 2011.
Twirling Candy has trained well on the track and decision was supported by her good work in training sessions at the Del Mar main course.
The colt is now familiar with the surroundings and will look to add a massive bankroll to his earnings if he wins the race on 28 August.
The Pacific Classic is the richest race of the year reeling in older horses in California and, it will be run at a distance of 1 ¼ miles on the Del Mar main track. Twirling Candy will take on the 1 ¼ miles distance for the third time in the year 2011.
The colt was considered to run in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile Handicap prior to the Pacific Classic decision which sealed Twirling Candy’s fate for the month of August.
Twirling Candy has run at a distance of 1 ¼ miles before in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap at Santa Anita and, the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park.
At Santa Anita, Twirling Candy finished a poorly run fifth under Joel Rosaria on 5 March, 2011, where he was the 2 to 1 favourite. His next shot at the similar distance was the recent third place finish at Hollywood Park, also ridden by Joel Rosario in the
Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup on 9 July, 2011.
In the field, Twirling Candy might not emerge as the favourite to win the Pacific Classic, but she has all the attributes of a winner, despite an up and down season his connections are optimistic that Twirling Candy will run down his opponents after his
work out.
Game on Dude will assume the role of the favourite for the Pacific Classic, who finished second in the Hollywood Gold Cup held at Hollywood Park by a nose to stable mate First Dude.
First Dude got retired from racing early this month when he incurred a tendon injury, and got laid from racing for good.
Another entrant who will spice up the race even more is the champion 3-year-old filly of 2010 Blind Luck. The 4-year-old filly will take on male horses for the first time in her career, the decision was taken because of her form this year, as she has won
three stakes races this year.
Other contenders include Tres Borrachos, Acclamation, Caracortado, Jeranimo, Make Music for Me, and Victory Pete.
