Twirling Candy highly favoured for the $1million Pacific Classic at Del Mar Poly Track
Twirling Candy has been successful in all of his visits to the Southern California racetrack, and the colt provides great excitement to fans and who ever follows him. The 4-year-old colt is 2 of 2 on the grass of Del Mar, but this time around it is the synthetic
surface of Del Mar that Twirling Candy has to conquer.
In a field of 10, all looking to land the prestigious $1million Pacific Classic on August 28, 2011, Twirling Candy has been declared the 5 to 2 morning line favourite to win the race, primarily because of his flawless record at the course.
Trained by John Sadler for owners, Craig Family Trust, Twirling Candy has drawn post number 10 and he will be ridden by his usual jockey, Joel Rosario, in the 1 ¼ mile test.
The son of Candy Ride out of House of Danzing by Chester House, the 4-year-old colt just wasn’t at his best when he faced Bob Baffert’s duo, First Dude and Game on Dude, at Hollywood Park's synthetic surface in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup.
The race was also run over a distance of 1 ¼ miles, and it consisted of 3-year-olds and beyond on 9 July, 2011.
Twirling Candy finished third behind First Dude and Game on Dude, finished one-two respectively with a winning time of 2 minutes and 1.57 seconds.
In all of his 10 starts, Twirling Candy has gone on to convert seven of them into wins, and his record on synthetic surface is acceptable with 3 wins at Hollywood Park.
Twirling Candy certainly looks for contention among runners like Acclamation, Setsuko, Tres Borrachos and the 4-year-old will be eager to exact his revenge on Game on Dude for keeping him at bay in the Grade 1 Hollywood Cup.
Since the Hollywood fixture, Twirling Candy has had steady and strong workout sessions under the watchful eye of John Sadler, starting mildly with four furlongs and then ending strongly with a bullet one mile work, former on 24 July and the latter on 21
August.
