i had an x ray of my intestine a whle ago and the doc said we must watch it because i have a loop or a twist. how bad can it get? he said he wanted to take it out if it made me uncomfortable again. i've always had stomach problems. and i'm havin them quite badly, i thought it was normal to have a bloated gut at times. i just put up with it. what would happen if i had this piece taken out?? do you think it's worth it?

  1. I'd be more concerned about what would happen if it didn't get taken out.  It can get pretty bad indeed.  Once the intestine twists, it cuts off blood flow and that part of the intestine dies - it would have to be removed anyway.  If for some reason it twisted and was left too long before removal, the complications can be even worse to the point of death because the intestine beyond the kink will all die because of lack of blood flow.  If you have the surgery, the surgeon will remove the area causing the problem and resection the intestine, recovery is excellent and usually full.
