1. When a tornado occurs, does it growl? (like have a growling sound like a lion or something)?

2. When a very intense twister occurs, for example, the television loses signal, many buildings are destroyed, so wouldn't the power be out too?

3. Do some tornado warning systems only ring SECONDS before the tornado occurs?

4. I don't think you can, but, can you outrun tornadoes?

  1. 1.) A tornado occurs when an updraft sits the rotating tube of air vertically.

2.) Strong tornadoes occur when there is strong instability, abundant moisture and sheer.

3.) Some do, but NOAA radios are best.

4.) No, never. Tornadoes can travel on average 35 mph and some cases it can travel over 50 mph.

  2. 1)

The sound a tornado makes is from the wind. Just like the wind makes a sound when you open a car window at 60 MPH, Imagine the sound it makes with air moving at 300 MPH - A lot of people say it sounds like a train engine.

    2)

The power could be out, too. Or not - it depends if it has somehow cut the power lines. TV and radio go out because it disrupts the radio waves in the air.

    3)

So far even the best systems we have only give seconds for a true tornado alarm. That's how fast the weather becomes a tornado.

    4)

You might outrun a tornado - they travel upward near 40 MPH - but let's say a tornado is moving from north to south. You may avoid it if you run east or west.

    5)

Like I said - the power may or may not be out - depending on damages done.

  3. 1. Some witnesses have said that it sounds like a train, others say a low growling noise was heard. So yes? It depends on the wind and intensity of that tornado. Maybe even opinion of the person listening.

    2. Yes the power does go out most of the time during a tornado. Some people have special radios that can keep signals and connect to networks, where as normal radios can not.

    3. Many times people only have 15 seconds to get out of their houses. Sometimes even less. Experts as of right now are still trying to develop a system to get the signal out before it is to late.

    4. It depends on how close you are, what you are traveling in and the storm itself. You wouldn't out run an F-5 tornado period, unless you were a good distance away. The chances are still slim. Some smaller storms in the low 1-2 category may move in unpredictable patterns giving you a chance to gain on the twister.

    Hope this helped (:
