Question:

Two African Grey questions : )?

I have a 5 month old Congo Grey, and am curious about two things. Number one, at what age is a Grey fully-grown and looking like an adult? I know that their eyes can take some time to change to the adult yellow/straw color, but I also notice that my Grey looks "babyish" to me in the face. . . .like maybe his/her head is smallish compared to an adult?? Does anyone know if this is my imagination or if this is the way a baby Grey looks? And at what age do they reach full size/weight?

And am curious as to when a Grey goes through its first moult, also. If my bird was hatched in March, when will it moult out its baby tail feathers so that the brighter red ones will grow in?

Just some things I haven't been able to find answers to on the web or in books, and have been wondering about. Thanks!

  1. It will look full grown at about 6 months.  It may also be that you have a Timneh which is smaller and has a blueish tint.

The first molt will happen somewhere around one year.

  2. Baby Greys start to look like adults around 7 or 8 months.
