Question:

Two Centre Skiing Holiday?

I live in the Uk and want to go to either USA or Canada for a 2 centre skiing holiday. (one week skiing and one week city ) One suggestion I have had is Mammoth Mountain in California for the first week and LA for the second.

Anyone got any other ideas, we really fancy either Brekenridge, Colorado, USA or Whistler, British Columbia Canada, but we are unsure of the best places to couple them up with.

  1. When I went to the USA to ski, I did two weeks in Vail, Colorado,.........three nights in Las Vegas (saw the Grand Canyon, truly awesome - you must see it), and three nights in New York.

  2. Whistler/Blackcomb, B.C. Canada, is the Premiere resort in North America. They are preparing for the Winter Olympics in 2010, in Vancouver, B.C. about 1.5 hours drive from Whistler.  The whole area is a great mix of skiing, winter sports, great food in Vancouver, pretty good in Whistler, good fishing in the Pacific Ocean, and the Straits of Juan de Fuca.  Also a quick boat trip to the USA, on the Victoria Clipper, 2 daily trips to Seattle.  A major hub in the Pacific rim.  The Whistler area can be changeable from sub zero C temps to +5 or +15 at the slopes. The storms come in quick from the Pacific, and can dump 50 CM overnight.  Vancouver has other ski areas close, like .5 hours from downtown.   Come enjoy the area.

  3. I'd say, just do Breckenridge, then Boulder.  Breck gives the freedom of skiing there or @ the other 5 mountains + an amazing town (heck, you may as well spend the whole time there).  Boulder's real chill & friendly + close to Denver if you need more.  That way, you just need to fly in & out of Colorado (otherwise, I too would've suggested Las Vegas-its fun).

  4. try steamboat colorado, its the up and coming resort, and is still a western town for the most part, and there is a lot to see there. I loved it when my family went there as well, there is a lot of intereesting and varied terrain, and a healthy backside.

as for the city part, you would have to pretty much fly out of the small landing strip at steamboat, so I would go to Phoenix Arizona. It is generally the warmest place in the US no matter what the season, and if you went during late winter or early spring, like mid march, then the days in phoenix would rarely get below 75 farenheit. There is easily enough attractions around for a week

  5. Go to Banff in Canada and ski Sunshine Village and Lake Louise.

In my opinion, Banff National Park can only be described as the most beautiful place on Earth.  You must go.
