Hello! I am getting one male Chinese Dwarf Hamster tomorrow and I heard that they are social. Would it be okay to put another male Chinese Dwarf in with him? He is used to living with another hamster; he used to live with a female. But when the owners sexed them, they realized the hamsters could not live together. They only had one cage and so they are letting me adopt him.

  1. Dont get too attached. Hamsters have short life spams. Consider a small puppy ?

  2. um in the pet shop i always see them in the same cage snuggled up in the corner SO i think its OK but just to make sure i would ask someone at the pet shop!because normal hamsters cant stay in a cage together!

  3. Dwarf hamsters can live together only if they are from the same litter or have been introduced at the same young age.If they are not from the same litter or have an age difference, they can fight viciously like syrians.

In a few rare cases, it is possible for two dwarfs of different litters and age groups to get along together (if both are of a mild temperament and do not have the dominant character).

But it is very difficult to decide on how the existing chinese would react unless you let a new one in his cage and see if they coexist. In that case, you should be ready with another cage if the hamsters do not get along well together.

  4. umm.. prolly ok but if there is fightin at all separate them

and that guy said they dont have short life spans they have like 5 yr life spans i have had mine for six years and he is still active and healthy

  5. introduce them first. like hold one outside the cage. if they start fighting, take it away and keep trying the next day. don't worry though, male hamsters get along fine. female hamsters are the ones that fight.
