Two French contenders do well at Chantaco Golf Club
The Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012, which was staged at the Chantaco Golf Club, Aquitaine, France, last week, featured a big French line-up but a few players were able to perform well.
Anne-Lise Caudal remained the strongest of all the French players as she posted a 270 to finish tied for the fifth position on the leaderboard.
Some of the key players the French line-up featured were: Julie Greciet, Jade Schaeffer, Sophie Giquel-Bettan, Valentine Derrey, Caroline Afonso, Gwladys Nocera, Lucie Andre and Alexandra Vilatte.
Caudal was stunning throughout the four days of the LET (Ladies European Tour) event as she got off to a solid start after firing a 70 in the opening round. The second round saw Caudal swing into action as she fully capitalised on the weather and course conditions.
A 65 in the second round was enough to help the French star step up the pressure and she did well in the remaining two rounds.
Julie Greciet is one of the rising stars in France and this was why her fans pinned their hopes on her. Greciet appeared to have lived up to the expectations of her fans as she remained inside the top 10 after posting an overall 274.
Observers said the crowd support was amazing as it was French players whom the spectators got behind the most throughout the four days.
Another French contender who displayed an impressive performance was Jade Schaeffer. Jade, despite facing rivals much stronger than her, set foot on the course with a clear head. Moreover, the French golfer avoided making sloppy shots in the opening round on Thursday.
Jade posted a 68 on Thursday, a score good enough to keep her momentum going. She, however, could not impress her fans in the second round as she recorded a 74.
Nevertheless, the last day ended with a flurry of excitement as the ambitious star shot her all-time lowest 62, improving her position to a tie 11th.
Commentators said that the spectators apparently rooted for the local players, but the spotlight was taken by contenders from other countries.
Australian Stacey Keating remained the best player in the roster as she shot an overall 266 to clinch the title.
