How would I write University of Pittsburgh in Japanese? (use characters if you can).

Also, how do you write something with a double consonant like shimashitta using kana? (How do I show there are 2 t's and not one? Is it like this? たた

I thought when you write ttsu it's っつ so it is the same for tta?

  1. University of Pittsburgh is ピッツバーグ大学.

I am not sure if this is your "University of Pittsburgh" but there is a Japanese Wikipedia Page about some University of Pittsburgh at

    http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%94%E...

If you want to say that you are going (traveling) to the University of Pittsburgh then you could say ピッツバーグ大学に行きます or ビッツバーグ大学へ行きます.

If you want to say you are going to (attending) the University of Pittsburgh then you could say

    ピッツバーグ大学の大学生です

    ("pittsubaagu daigaku no daigakusei desu")

    or

    ピッツバーグ大学に通っています。

    ("pittsubaagu daigaku ni kayotteimasu")

    ピッツバーグ大学で勉強しています is OK too.

"tta" in hiragana looks like った. There are a few ways you can type this on a computer. If you're using a direct input (romaji) setup, just type t-t-a.

  2. わたしはピッツバーグ大学に行きます means you are traveling to Pitt--not necessarily attending Pitt. For attending you'd say something like ピッツバーグ大学で勉強しています。

Shimashita doesn't have a double t sound. But to make the tta in hiragana it would be った.

  3. The University of Pittsburgh is ピッツバーグ大学 as your understanding.

A double consonant like ttsu is transferred to っつ or ッツ as same.

Katakana is usually used for the word from foreign countries.

    However, quoted shimashitta is improper.

Shimashita is correct and it is just しました.

    Shimashitta like しましった is wrong.

    BTW shimashitta is not しましたた.

た means TA and it is voiced sound.

    small つ( = っ ) is unvoiced sound instead.

For correct example some more would be as follows.

    atto あっと as saying Oh

    kitto  ÃƒÂ£Ã‚ÂÃ£ÂÂ£Ã£ÂÂ¨Ã£Â€Â€probably

    motto もっと furthemore

acchi kocchi あっちこっち to and fro

yatta  ÃƒÂ£Ã‚‚„った (I or We) made it!
