Before I start, I have only been in for a year. If you're going to be rude, don't bother.

First Question: I want to be a recruiter eventually. I have had a small mastable offense (failure to report underaged drinking) But I was let off pretty easy (7 days restriction 1/2 weeks pay). I am only an ETSN right now but would like to know what kind of steps should I take to make it easier to get there. I have a passion for helping people get the most out of their career and their military experience.

Second Question: Has anyone been to Bahrain before? It's looking like I will be there for more than a month waiting for my ship. I just wanted to know what to expect from being there.

  1. You'll need to be an ET2 at least before you would be eligible for recruiting duty. You can request it when your eligible for shore duty.

Just keep out of trouble and do the best job you can. 3.8 evals or better is a must. This one incident will not prevent you from going to recruiting duty one day.

Bahrain is a small base. It's a little remote. They do have some nice rec centers and a decent enlisted club. Go to the seamans club off base if you want to get a break from on base living.

It's a Muslim country so do expect to see allot of bars off base. Matter of fact you will only see them at the tourist hotel strip. There are quite a few souks (smalbazaarsrs) and are best know for selling goljewelryly at low prices and making cheap fake perfumes.

  2. I'm a CE1. As far as recruiting duty goes they are more likely to select someone who is an E-5 and rarely will they put an E-4 in that position.  If you went to Captains Mast you may have to wait a couple of years before applying for recruiting duty depending on the needs of the Navy and if you can get waivers.  I have heard good things about Bahrain.  I know people love to go there due to the tax free benefits.
