Two NBA superstars show their love for Blake Griffin
Blake Griffin, whose athletic dunks have become a nightly fixture on highlight shows this season, has drawn some glowing praise from both a two-time NBA MVP as well as a 15-time NBA All-Star. LeBron
James and Shaquille O’Neal have both admitted on their Twitter accounts to being blown away by Griffin’s explosive plays for the Los Angeles Clippers.
“Man Blake Griffin is the most explosive player in the league! Crazy bounce,” James posted during the Clippers game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday 25 November.
O’Neal got in on the fun later in the game, writing “blake griffin is n my top power forwards n da league, he is like (shawn) kemp.”
Griffin, the 21-year-old power forward selected first overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury but now that he's healthy, he is averaging 19.3
points and 11.3 rebounds per game so far this season. He should give John Wall, the rookie point guard for the Washington Wizards, some competition for Rookie of the Year honours.
When asked about the praise he received from the two future Hall-of-Famers, Griffin was quick to say that he can still improve. "That's pretty cool. I appreciate that. I still have a lot
of work to do, but I appreciate they say those things. I still have a lot of work to do before I'm where I want to be."
While Griffin has been a great story for the Clippers, his presence hasn’t helped them in the win column, as they currently hold a dismal 3-13 record. But with a recent victory over the
Sacramento Kings, where Griffin finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds, the Clippers have now won two straight games for the first time since February.
Griffin’s most impressive stat line of the season came in a recent loss to the New York Knicks, when he posted 44 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists. In his past three games, he has
scored at least 24 points and pulled down at least 13 rebounds. His only weak spot this season has been his free throw shooting, where he is only 72-for-126 so far this season.
