Question:

Two Phone #s at once appeared on caller ID: (***-***-***, BRC 1-***-***-***) What's that mean?

The second # was below the first number.

What does BRC mean, and why have I never seen this before?

I did a 'reverse lookup' and the first number was coming from Washington DC and the second was 'unknown' (I live in KY).

Could it have been a survey or something?

  1. Did you receive this call on your land line telephone or your cell phone?  When it comes to home telephones or land line phones, your name information sits in a database which is called by the Caller ID service.

Cell Phone companies like Verizon and many others don't want your name information getting into the wrong hands anymore than it is already so they'll fight to keep name information private, thus only displaying a number.

Telemarketers are the a perfect example of the privacy levels of your cell phone information versus your home telephone number name association.

If you aren't aware already, there is a way to fake your caller ID number allowing you to turn your caller ID number into whatever number you want.  It's very possible that a business or person might have been using some sort of call spoofing technique.  If I can change my caller ID information, so can anybody else.

Just because a number is displayed on your caller ID doesn't mean that's actually who's calling.  It might have been an attempt to get you to answer the call.
