Two Questions . . .?

Question

1) What vegetables can hamsters eat ?

2) I cleaned out my hamster yesturday and when I woke up this morning she had moved all of her bedding to a seperate part of her cage and had moved all of the sawdust and had upturned her wooden hut thing that she chews on ! Why has she done this ?

1) NOT overly water based veg and fruit. With things like lettuce they can have it but small amounts occasionally else they will have diarrhea same with tomatoes. My hamster loves them. They tend to like sweet stuff. But veggie wise mine really likes broccoli, carrot, sweetcorn, beansprouts. He prefers berries and small amounts of wholemeal toast. Honey coated dried banana chips score well too. But veg wise let them try anything, they like variety as much as humans. Just keep the size small and let yours decide what it likes.

2) Just making home homely again. Normal behavior.

1. Hamsters can eat many veggies, such as :

Lettuce

cucumber

radish

tomato

coriander

ladys fingers

cabbage

and so on and so on. they can also eat a variety of fruits such as apple

banana

grapes

watermelon

pear

orange

and so on.

I also feed my hanster pancakes, very very little, just plain, and she likes them. make sure to only feed a quarter sized amount and go slow when feeding new food to your hamster.

2. Your hamster probably did this because a) it smells different from her old bedding and she wants to mark her territory and b) because she wants to make the cage a comfortable habitat, like a messy room is often more homelike than a clean one. It gives it a lived-in feel.

1) They can eat most vegetables but usually dont like tomatoes and not too many citrus fruit cuz that can make them a little sick. Here, read this site

Hamsters can eat any kind of vegetables! But i don't think they can eat tomatoes. Vegetables that are watery inside. I don't think they can eat those. Be sure not to feed your hamster citrus fruits! (e.g. lemon, lime, oranges, grape fruit)

Oh lolz! My hamster went crazy like that berfore too. YOu don't have to worry about them! And the reason is that your hamster loves to be clean! Like my hamster! They get excited when something they like happens to them. They dig and they dig. THat is really normal so you don't have to worry about it. My hamster did that right after the cage was cleaned! She ended up fine. And it usually means that you don't clean your cage often enough to please your hamster!

A very simple explanation, it is because you have disturbed her sleeping area (the nest) once the nest has been disturbed a hamster will not sleep there again because the nest now smells different to her, she feels very insecure. This is a territorial related thing with hamsters. Most hamster sites that you visit will always say that you must put 'most' of the old, and relatively clean nesting material back on top of the new material when you have cleaned out the nest, this will keep the hamsters own familiar scent, so that nothing smells different to her. All I can suggest now is to leave her sleeping where she is for a couple of nights, and then move the nest back to where it was. You will notice that she may also store a little bit of food in her nest, always put that back where you found it.
