Two affiliated bodies announce their squad for HI’s First Senior National men's hockey championship
In view of the first edition of Senior National men's hockey championship that is being conducted this time by Hockey India (HI), Jharkhand and Bengal announced its 18-member squad on June 7, yesterday, for the championship, starting
from June 10-19 in Bhopal.
According to Hockey Jharkhand’s (HJ) Secretary General, Pir Mohammad, the final selection took place during the presence of a national selection official, an Olympian and the team’s coach, Manohar Topno. This announcement was made
in Jamshedpur.
The team's captain selected for the team is Sudhir Bhengra. Apart from captain, Bhengra, the midfielder, the other team-members of Jharkhand include the defenders Gaindra Tigga, Birsu Bhengra and Sumit Topno, the strikers Matias Minz,
Bikash Topno, Rohit Tirkey, Seam S Kandulna, Anil Xaxa, Thomas Nag and Jorong Guria, the goal-keepers Dinesh Ekka and Manoj Singh, the mid-fielders Wilson Minz, Roshan Bhengra, Banmali Xess, Ajay Kujur and Ajitesh Roy.
Prior to the selection, Jharkhand’s team had undergone a preparatory camp that was held for eight days at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi, from May 30 to June 6.
According to Pir, it was discouraging that the team was denied to practice on Ranchi’s astro-turf and had to be trained on turf.
In addition to the final eighteen, few substitutes were also picked out namely Bimal Ratnesh Minz for forward, Suman Tirkey for mid-fielder and Amrit Tirkey for goal-keeping.
On the other hand, Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) announced its eighteen-member squad for the Bhopal championship yesterday, June 7, in Kolkata.
BHA appointed Mohammad Riyazuddin as the team’s captain for this national event.The other seventeen members of the squad include Tapan Saha, Jotil Singh, Danish Mustatfa Khan, Sunder Singh, Ashish Singer, Manoj Kiro, Junas Bara, Shuvankar
Bhuiyan, Gurpratap Singh, Avijit Biswas, Sunil Kujur, Lalit Baxla, Gurdeep Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Amarjeet Ekka, Fardeen Khan and Razi Abdi.
According to BHA’s statement, Bengal’s senior men hockey team will set-off for Bhopal tomorrow, June 9, for taking part in the event starting off the next day. Moreover, they will be accompanied by their coach, Istiyak Ali, and the team’s manager Iqbal Singh.
