I have had a female BD for two years and I was wondering if I could get another female BD and house them together in a 40 breeder?

  1. SEPERATE THEM!!!!!!! They'll KILL each other..............

  2. It is possible, but it may not work. If they are two adults though, you'll want atleast a 55 for two beardies. 40 is too small for two adults. Beyond tank size, females can get along fine, but then again, they can also be dominant and attack the other or cause the other to stop eating. I would probably keep them in seperate cages first, see how they interact and in time, put them in a larger cage.

  3. Beardies should not be housed together--no matter what s*x they are.  It is not natural for them to be confined in close quarters with no way of getting away from each other.  One will usually try to dominate and intimidate the other, causing stress.  Fighting can lead to serious injury.

  4. I have a friend who has 2 male Bearded Dragons and they are fine together but i dont know about girls!

  5. NO. You can NOT house two beardies together, even if it is two females.

A 40 gallon breeder is the MINIMUM size for a SINGLE adult beardie; it would not be nearly big enough for two.

Bearded dragons are NOT social animals, and don't get along well with others. They prefer to live seperate, as cohabing (putting 2 or more together) causes a LOT of stress on a beardie. One will be the dominant, and will bully the submisive one, which is very stressing. Stress can cause illness, and may even make a beardie stop eating. There are many signs of dominace, and most people do not even realize that their beardies are being dominant. For example, beardies that stack on top of one another aren't being "cute", and they don't like each other, the one on top is being dominant. If the dominant one is on top of the other all the time, it will keep the submissive beardie from getting the heat and UV it needs to be healthy.

Signs of dominace aren't limited to just stacking on the submissive one, keeping the other from getting enough food, or the head bobbing/arm waving; it can actually go as far as actual fighting. It's really not worth it to risk putting 2 together, and coming home to find one severly injured, or even dead. Beardies that get into fights can have tail tips, feet, and sometimes, even whole limbs bitten off by another dragon. Those types of injuries are very serious, and even if the initial injury doesn't kill them, infection can.

Also, if one of the dragons gets ill, you won't know which one it is. If one gets diarrhea, or has obvious worms in it's p**p, you won't know who did it. Also, if one throws up, you won't know who did it. That causes problems, because you don't know who to take to the vet, and you don't know who to make sure gets extra water, etc to make sure they stay hydrated. And, if one of them gets sick, the other one will too. Vet bills for beardies are EXPENSIVE. It usually costs around $50.00 just to walk in the door with a reptile, without even getting an exam, testing, and/or medications. It will cost much more to medicate 2 beardies then it would to medicate just one.

Beardies do NOT like having cagemates, and do not get lonely or depressed being in single beardie homes or enclosures. They prefer having their own enclosure. If you really want another beardie, get him/her his own cage. That will keep them safer, healthier, and certainly much, much happier.

  6. Ok heres the REAL deal...

Two females CAN be housed together. All you have to do is make sure they are the same size. A 40 breedder is plenty of room unless you have German Giant. lol

Just make sure you have multiple hiding spaces and separate basking spots.

Females sometimes need their space ya know:)
