  1. Both given answers are correct

  2. Let x = distance traveled by faster car

    Let y = distance traveled by slower car

    x = 60t

    y = 50t

    However, if distance is measured from the start pt of x

    x = 60t

    y = 450 - 50t

    60t = 450 - 50t

    110t = 450

    t = 450/110 = 45/11

    the two cars will meet after 45/11 hours

    they will meet 60*(45/11) = 245.5 miles from where the faster car started.

  3. D = 60t

    t = D/60

    450 - D = 50t

    D + 50t = 450

    D + 5D/6 = 450

    D = 450(6)/11

    D = 245.45 miles for 60 MPH car

    and 450 - 245.45 = 204.55 miles for 50 MPH car
