  1. well guinea pigs are horribly vocal at night! boring temperamental not soft a chinchilla is soft some what affectionate both are skiddish! the initial cost of buying a  cage for a chin is spendy $130-300 for a decent cage he/she will be happy in. make sure it has multi levels to jump in they love to leap! you don't have to get two i'd get two they are social creatures like to be in pack. they are cheep to feed but they need dust baths a raisin or dried piece of a fruit a day, they eat pellets mainly but you can give them oats a raw trail mix now and then and plenty of hay. i suggest carfresh bedding it soaks up the horrid smell of the chinchilla from my experience plus its soft on there feet no pine cedar or aspin wood shavings or wire on the bottom of the cage they're lil feet will get soars plus the wood chips cause respitory problems.

they do needs exercise a few times a week for 15-30  mins depending on the chin.  make sure it's chin safe that the room is free of wires chords cables or cleaners as they do love to chew!  provide wood for them to chew on. you must make sure the toilet seat is down if they are in the bathroom they may drown if not! also no leashes harnesses or wheels with straight bars across they might break their fragile bones easily

they live up to 20 years they actually love to cuddle in sheets fleece blankets around in the cage it's cute.

i would type in chichilla on google with your city and state try to find a reputable breeder if you want a healthy chin with good genetics.  most at the pet store are overpriced ($169 for a standard grey) and have real problems cause the breeder is careless it's going to cost 79-180 for a particular color or breed usually.

if you wanted to adopt a used one you can usually find a good deal from someone on craigslist they usually have a chin and cage for $50-200 you can even try your local animal shelter if you want a fixed chin.

may i suggest a bunny. they are only about 40 dollar max the cage is cheaper and they are REALLY affectionate, they respond to names and shower you with love. get a smaller breed like netherland dwarf or holland lop. they only get to be 1 1/2-2 lbs you may have to hunt around for them but they are the best lil pets for the right price if money is an issue. they live up 6-10 years. chins and rabbits need timothy hay. rabbits need pellets and vegies no ice burg lettuce but romain is good some fruits and again carefresh bedding. they are both chewers that need some toys and exercise i bought a playpen for my chins so i could watch them get exercise  in my living room with out terds and chewed wires. both need to stay out of direct sun light they will die over temps above 80 degrees!

go for it get another cute pet your parents just can't say no too only if you have enough love to give!

  2. Well I really do suggest waiting till your guinea pig is gone because chinchillas need alot of care.If you do not want to wait you could sell or put a sales article in kijiji for your guinea pig. But if you do go that route then you should get an older guy from kijiji because they live so long and I got mine that way and he is the sweetest thing. They need a really big cage that is high off the ground with lots of ledges cause they can jump 6 feet, they need a bath house and special chinchilla dust no beach sand or anything, special chinchilla food, only chinchilla treats no rabbit/gunea pig treats, maybe a big ball for running in or a wheel depending on the chinchillas personality (mine doesn't use a wheel) a hiding house depending on the personality if it is shy you might want to get one, bedding NO cedar or pine I suggest that you use CareFresh bedding even the colored stuff is ok, it is optional to get a ferret leash or ferret hammock, toys and stuff. You will also need food and water bowls I suggest metal bowls that clip on to the cage cause they like to tip over standing bowls, no water bottles because they will chew them and they need a hay rack or a really heavy ceramic bowl and you need to buy them timothy or alfalfa hay (i have heard that timothy is healthier) but I feed mine alfalfa. You need a chinchiller a marble slab that stays cool because they can't be over 80 degrees or they WILL die and they like to lay on it. Chinchillas don't like being wet but if in case they are over heating you should wrap them in a cloth dipped in cold water. They need to be out of their cage at leasst 1 hour a day and chinchillas are fast creatures so if they get loose, close the door to the room and keep calm and don't chase them. And don't yell or scold at your chinhilla because it scares them talk to them in a calm voice. Chinchillas don't like being held and cuddled they perfer running around. Random fact is that chinchillas will not learn their name. Chinchillas p**p ALOT but they are small, firm and do not stink and are easy to pick up with your hands and they don't pee alot and usually don't pee on you. You will need to clean their cage about every week but I clean my chinchillas cage every fourth day. But they are great pets despite all the work they are loyal, cute, cuddly, great companions and I love them. Most of this stuff  comes to about 500$ Do not get a chinchilla from petsmart because they are very miss treated and PJ's Pets will rip you off because they cost like 230$ I say buy one off the internet of at a local pet shelter of special chinchilla rescue. I would say that to convince your parents you should read like 3 books and go on multiple websites and do lots of research and lik recite it to your parents and sat lots of the good things about having a chinchilla also maybe make about 100 dollars for the actual animal and maybe get your parents to buy the accesories for birthday/christmas ect.I hope this helped and I hope you have enough info to vote me best answer. Have a good time with your chinchilla if you get one:)

  3. Uh.

If you can't even wait for your guinea pig to die, I don't know how you're going to be content with a chinchilla who lives for TWENTY YEARS.

If you get bored of an animal in two years- and by the way, guinea pigs can live SIX TO EIGHT YEARS, not four, kid- then I don't know how you expect to keep interest in one for twenty.

And I'm not replying to your second question because it isn't as easy as answering the question. It shows you've done NO research at all and really should be researching before you do anything else. You don't even know how long a guinea pig lives, let alone a chinchilla and how to look after these fairly fragile, easily scared creatures.

  4. Wanting to get a new pet and showing loss of interest in your old pet isn't going to make your parents want to get you another pet. Do you take very good care of the guinea pig? Feed and water it every day and always keep its cage clean? In my experience parents respond better to you showing responsibility then to begging.

Chinchillas are one of the most expensive small pets to take care of. I'd think about this carefully if I were you. They need a bath container, bath dust, salt licks, constant (safe) chews for their teeth, fresh bedding, fresh food, alfalfa grass, fresh water and a big cage (and preferably an excersise ball, NOT a wheel, those are dangerous for chinchillas and can break their delicate tails).  You need to bath them regularly (not in water, in dust, which is messy) change the bedding daily, change the water and food daily, and make sure they have fresh alfalfa daily, they need attention daily as they are curious (but out of cage play must be supervised! They can be injured or chew expensive things, or through wires and get hurt!). Mine chews plastic so his cage had to be entirely metal (not always easy to find). They are nocturnal so they tend to be noisy at night, and I have to keep mine in another room or I can't sleep. They also can get very lonely, mine went through a phase of pulling his fur out until we got our kitten (who is so gentle with him).  Keep in mind Chinchillas need Chinchilla specific products, do not substitute for other small animal products! Chinchillas can have lung problems from being around pine, and get alot of digestive issues from foreign foods and treats (Especially too much sugar). They have sensitive hearing, loud noises bother them and they chew everything. I mean everything! Walls, furniture, clothes... Also keep in mind unless you get your chinchilla as a baby, or you get one that was handled alot as a baby, it may not like being touched.

I got mine as a baby and he loves being petted, but hates being held. They are great pets and are so cute! Mine does flips when I let him out of his cage (but I have to keep a close eye on him, he chews everythin given the chance and sometimes pees on the rug/couch.)
