Two dates given for Abraham-Froch bout
The Super Six tournament semi-final bout between Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch will take place before the end of the year, Gareth Davies of The Telegraph reports.
Sauerland Event, which promotes the tournament in partnership with Showtime, have their eyes on two dates: 27 November and 18 December. Originally the bout was scheduled for 2 October, but was pushed
back when Carl Froch cited a back injury sustained in training.
The bout will determine the first contender for the WBA and WBC super middleweight titles, both of which will be possessed by Andre Dirrell or Andre Ward following their unification bout.
While the technical details of the tournament have been amended following the withdrawal of Mikkel Kessler, a number of unforeseen circumstances still jeopardize the practical components of getting fights
underway.
For example, while the winner of Abraham-Froch will take on the winner of Dirrell-Ward, the latter still has yet to find a venue in the United States. With the bout supposed to take place on Saturday,
it almost surely looks as though it will need to be postponed.
Showtime previously stated to fighters’ promoters that should they fail to obtain venue specifics by the contractual date, they may face legal repercussions.
Abraham is frustrated with Froch’s postponement, alleging that nobody knows the exact details of his injury. He has speculated that the British former champion is playing mind games.
Abraham recently said: “What's the problem with him? No one really knows. I want this fight to be re-scheduled as soon as possible. We can't afford to lose time. A boxing career is too short, and I want
to fight every three months. It is very tough waiting. Right now, the battle between is all mental, because we are evenly matched.”
It is probable that the 27 November date for Abraham-Froch will win over a December date granted Froch is healthy. This is due to the fact that Showtime already has a boxing pay-per-view scheduled for
18 December featuring light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and legend Bernard Hopkins, and it is unlikely they will be up for displaying two events on one night.
