Two guinea pigs of same s*x?

Im buying two guinea pigs today..

Can two males together?

or

How about two females?

1 male 1 female?

Im buying from Petco..

And dont give me answers to adopt..

You asked another question about buying vs. adopting and everyone told you to adopt. Why aren't you considering it any longer?

You're best to get two females. 2 boys will fight, and 1 boy/1 girl.....well you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out what'll happen there!

Well, if you insist on buying from petco we can't stop you.

But be warned - MANY animals from petco turn out to be mis-sexed, sick or pregnant!

I would read up on sexing guinea pigs so you can check them for yourself before you bring them home, just in case!

Anyway, guinea pigs are a social species - this applies to both males and females!

So yes -

You CAN keep two males together.

You CAN keep two females together.

You CAN keep a female with a NEUTERED male.

Please do NOT house a female with an entire male - there are enough unwanted piggies in the world already, and the sow has a 1 in 5 chance of dying through complications!

Whichever s*x of piggies you choose make sure they have a big enough cage.  Lack of space is the most common reason for fighting.

Males do tend to need a bit more space than females, because they are more territorial.

Minimum cage size should be about 7.5 sq feet for two girls, or 10.5 sq feet for two boys.

It's better to get 2 females in the same cage. They don't fight a lot like 2 males in the same cage.   :-)

NEVER get 1 of each s*x. they will breed like crazy. get two females, two males will fight.

i had to males one dies then i got a baby male and they are fine they sleep in the same igloo two males DO NOT FIGHT I HAVE owned to sets of two males i promise
