My husband had both his parents last names growing up so when we got married, I took both too. He always hated how long his name was so my question is... should I give my baby a middle name or just a first name so he/she will have 3 like normal??

  1. I'm sure a middle name will be fine. I know loads of people with double-barreled surnames, and they've all got middle names.

  2. All names will be fine. A first name and a middle name will allow the child to have choice in what they are called and they can always just use one surname when they are growing up. That way, the only time they will have to use their full name is when they are doing exams and so on. I know lots of people with names like this and it doesn't bother them, even though they are long. Maybe if you choose a fairly short middle name it won't make that much of a difference anyway. I'm sure as they get older they will meet several other children with long names and it won't bother it at all. Remeber to be positive about it to them and tell them how special it is not how your husband hated it. This way  they wilil grow up loving their long name. It is up to you in the end though and good look! Hope this helps! x

  3. give it a middle!!!!

  4. I would do the whole thing... if it were me, I'd have his name, middle name and both last names! But if you are thinking thats just too long why not shorten it up a little!? good luck!  :)

  5. It depends what the name is. Personally I think it might be a little long with two last names and a middle name, but it depends on the length of the middle name. I would keep it simple.

  6. I had a similar problem. My husband's surname was Campbell-Cylia. I had always wanted to hyphon my name, with my husband. [My maiden name was Taylor.

When we married I wasn't sure wether i should give up my idea of having my surname hyphoned to his, or tell his mother we were dropping her Campbell. We decided to compromise, we dropped my Taylor & her Campbell. We then always said that a son of ours' middle name would be Campbell. It turned out we never had any sons.

However, if our surname was hyphoned we would have given a middle name anyway. My husband's birth certficate said Campbell-Cylia but he always went by just Cylia and said his middle name was infact Kane Campbell; not just Kane.

It really deends what you would like to do, but i would do the middle name :)

    Good luck!
