Has anyone had any experience putting two adult lovebirds into the same cage that haven't grown up together? I've jsut taken in a lovebird who needed a new home and once he/she (?) has had time to settle in I'd love it to have a partner to bond with as it isn't hand trained.

I'd love the benefit of your experience, please.

  1. You may want to make sure that they are of opposite s*x or they may fight. Love birds need partners but not of the same s*x. Be sure they are of the opposite s*x before putting them together. The dominate one of the two will kill the other one.

  2. The best thing to do is put one in a cage and one on your hand (or in another cage), let them see each other, and if they ignore each other or show interst in each other, try to put both of them in one cage. Make sure they ar not the same gender!

  3. First of all never start out putting birds who are meeting for the first time in the same cage.  The only way you will know is if you have them meet in an area that is new to both of them or you will have dominate problems. Put them together somewhere away from any cages. Supervise them. Let them get to know each other well. This may take a few hours. Once your sure there getting along you can put them in the cage together but keep a close eye on them.

  4.   I have two love birds that did not grow up together and i put them in the same cage. It is a male and a female , so they got along. My neighbor however had two males that did not grow up together and put them in the same cage. They fought everyday. You might just ant to leave them together for a couple days to see if theyget along. I was told by the vet they they are much happier if they have company.
