My friend just received a check made out to her and her husband. Her husband is out of the country for a couple weeks visiting family. Can she cash the check without him, or do both need to be there? Thanks.

  1. My grandmother wrote a check out to me and my husband this passed Christmas(we dont have a joint account) and I tried to cash it myself but the bank told me that both of us had to be there with our IDs and signatures on the back. That was through Wachovia.

  2. Well wait until he's back, the bank does want to secure the privacy of you both, so both of you must be present, and everything so it runs smoothly

  3. If they have a joint bank account it shouldn't be a problem.

  4. if the check says her name OR her husbands name, she can cash it without him. if it says her name AND her husbands name, then he hasta be there also. i worked at a bank for 4 years. let me explain it a little better. say her name is mary and his is john..if the check said mary smith or john smith, she could cash it. if the check said mary smith and john smith, then she couldn't cash it without him. i hope that helped! if she has a joint bank account with him, she can just deposit it into the account.

  5. probably need both sigs & ID's. depends on where you would go to cash it.
