two objects of the same weight are dropped from a helicopter. both of them opened their parachutes at the same time. the first parachute is smaller than the other parachute. which one will fall faster? why?

  1. The object with a larger parachute will fall slower than the other one with a smaller parachute since a larger amount of air resistance is produced by the larger parachute because of its large surface area


  2. The smaller one will reach the ground first, because the air resistance (upward force) offer by smaller one is smaller than bigger, so the rate of falling will be higher for the small parachute.

  3. Parachutes create friction in the air also known as air resistance            or drag. Also, one square yard of drag will slow a falling body almost 20 percent. So, the first one will fall faster since it creates less drag.

  4. The one with the smaller parachute falls faster, that's because the upthrust is directly proportional to the surface area of the parachute. And greater the upthrust, less is the speed of falling...
