Question:

Two questions about global warming?

1) a) Why is the land in the southern hemisphere 0.05oC/dec warming so much slower than the land in the northern hemisphere 0.23oC/dec, when the aerosols which are supposed to be masking some of global warming are mainly concentrated in the northern hemisphere?

b) Why is it that the oceans are warming FASTER than the land in the southern hemisphere.

2) Why is the lower troposphere warming slower than the surface when models predict faster warming (1.2x)

  1. 1a) The whole southern hemisphere is warming more slowly because there is more ocean water to absorb heat.

1b) That I don't know.  I could speculate, but it would just be a guess.  You'd have to ask a climate scientist.

    2) It's probably not.  Any discrepancy between expected and measured warming in the upper troposphere (which is the expected result from either solar or anthropogenic warming) is most likely instrumental.  See the question linked below and my answer to it.

  2. It's a natural cycle and it's compounded by the destruction of forests and the use of missiles and nuclear bomb testing. The earth can handle it provided there are forests. Europe used to be one big forest. Volcanoes have produced far more greenhouse gases and caused huge air pollution etc. Think Krakatoa, the moon was green for 8 months hence the saying" do you think the moon is green cheese"!
