Question:

Two "hit and run" claims in one year ... are they gonna "stick it to me" with my insurance rates?

One car parked outside my house, got sideswiped earlier this year and of course, I had no idea who (middle of the night hit and run). I made a claim against the insurance to fix it, and they ended up paying out about $750.

My OTHER car had the same thing happen to it yesterday morning (I found out when I went to go to work) so I got an estimate at lunch and it's gonna be at least $2500 to repair THIS damage (at the insurance companie's preferred shop).

No suspects, no witnesses, nobody to point the finger at.

$250 deductible I can manage to scrape together, but ... will my insurance company (Nationwide) hike my rates, and if they do is it likely to be "a little" or "a LOT"? I've had them for four years, I have mediocre credit but a spotless driving record, and now TWO "no fault" claims in 2008 ... I haven't called them yet to report it, but I probably need to TODAY if I am going to ...

  1. My sister is an insurance agent for car insurance.  My car was also hit and I have never hit anyone else.  My car was totaled  and it was brand new just off the lot.  0 miles when I bought it.  Had it for 2 months, was on my way to work and a stopped at a light when a girl came around the corner, with wet icy roads and hit me.  I was first at the light.  My car was so smashed, I couldn't' believe it.  She got sited, I got my car "fixed" because it was brand new and the insurance didn't want to pay for a new one so I had to have it fixed where they wanted it done and guess what?  My rates went up for 5 yrs. then went back down  I was super pissed off about that.  It wasn't my fault and I get "punished" if you will.  I hope this doesn't happen to you.  Good luck

  2. Yes they will increase your rates if they don't decide to cancel your policy.  Sorry it's sad but true.  good luck.

  3. Yep, sad but true, two no faults indicates you're a higher hazard - more at risk for a third hit and run, while parked, for whatever reason.  Likely, because it's the same idiot going home every time.

Anyway, you will likely see a rate increase over this.   And if you try to shop your insurance out, you might get some declinations, over two no faults.
