Two stroke outboard engines versus four stroke engines.?

What are the pros and cons of two stroke and four stroke engines? Which is easier to maintain?

easy answer: two strokes are light, give high performance and are simply to maintain. however they use up to 40% more fuel, are very noisy, burn oil that pollutes the environement.

in many countries the sale new of 2 strokes are banned because of the pollution.

I can only add that the fuel is also a lot more expensive (if you use the engine much at all in a season) as you have to include pricey 2 × stroke oil all the time, and you get greater horsepower, per engine size, from 4 × strokes.

If you had to choose between a two stroke and a four stroke, go with the four strokke they may be a littlle heavy but perform much better.  Personally I would not choose either.  Go to your local dealer to look at the Evinrude E-Tech©. It is the best motor on the Market. Its as light as a two stroke with the power of a four stroke, doesnt need too be put in the shop, and you can winterize it yourself. Excellent Motor!

2 strokes are becoming illegal on a lot of lakes here in Georgia....so if this is a big purchase, go with a 4 stroke to be on the safe side.  Also, the 4 stroke is much better on gas and not as smokey.

Four strokes are cleaner burning. Two strokes have more hole shot and performance. The oil is not really an option if you look at it this way, The 4 stroke takes oil it is just in the crank case. The 2 stroke either takes it in the fuel (recommended) or it is injected with the fuel from a reservior. Fuel efficency on a 2007 model 2 stroke is just as good as a 4 stroke. You will not the hole shot out of a 4 stroke that you will a 2 stroke so it all depends on what your using the boat for.
