Two successive cut misses leave Ben Crane in the hanging
Ben Crane has been in a poor run of form for the past few weeks. He missed the cut at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, due to a back injury. Later, he missed the cut at The Barclays Championship and now once again, he has missed the cut by one stroke at
the Deutsche Bank Open.
The world number 62 now stands at the 70th place in the FedEx Cup standings and the cause for concern is that only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will move onto BMW Championship.
He would now have to sweat for two days and hope that the results go in his favour so that he remains on the 70th spot. "I knew. I knew. I knew exactly where I stood," Crane said. “Just a disappointing way to finish”.
Two rounds of 74 and 71 meant that Ben missed the cut by the slightest of margins. He needed a par on his last hole to make the cut, instead he bogeyed.
Crane has faced some difficult times since his T13 finish at John Deere Classic. He suffered a back injury and it has been a struggle for him since then.
"And then coming here I got off to a rough start yesterday and never really got it going in the right direction," said a frustrated Crane.
During the second round, Crane had numerous birdie opportunities but one after the other, they slipped away and when the time came to show up at the 18th he miscalculated his shot.
"I don’t know how the whole thing’s going to shake out, but I’ve had a really disappointing last month being hurt and not being able to swing until Thursday really of Bethpage," Crane said.
He also said that golf and life are two very similar things because they both are unpredictable. He was optimistic that he will learn from the mistakes that he made in the last two tournaments.
It was tough for Crane from the start because he hardly had time to practise for the playoffs due to his back injury.
“It’s hard, really, when you can’t practice and come out and start the Playoffs” said Crane.
