Question:

Two varieties of ants in my new apartment kitchen! Need household products that will kill them, please!?

OK, so I am the first of three roommates to move into an apartment previously occupied by some college kids. I was making dinner last night and noticed a carpenter ant on the table. Several minutes later, I noticed a few small "normal" ants on the counter. I have seen several more of both varieties and am convinced that I have an infestation. Here's the catch--one of the original tenants is still in the house until the 31st, so I can't just go putting ant baits all over her kitchen (not to mention that I've spent basically every penny I have on my security deposit and food for the month). My question is, is there any household product or products that might already be in the house I can use as ant baits? I know about Borax and sugar, but if I don't have to spend any more money on this house right away, I would really prefer not to!

  1. Ant traps are CHEAP, and they are effective.

To rid the apt of the infestation, BUY ant traps, or speak to the Apt Manager...maybe they have some to give to you.

Bleach sprayed/wiped on the counters and floors will kill the ants present, BUT, will not end the flow of ants that are not present.

  2. Go to the library and see if they have one or

more of the "Hints from Heloise" books. They

are packed full of helpful hints for problems

around the house, and most are natural solutions.

    I wish you the best-----

Oh, you gotta love what Darcy has done to your

    Sabres !!!!!!

  3. Try using spearmint extract. Look for where they are coming from and just take some of the spearmint and dab on your countertop. They shouldn't go past it. That might help. Good luck.

  4. dont leave food lyeing about and bleech will do the trick.

  5. Try spraying regular cheap white vinegar.
