Ty Lawson inspires a third quarter blow out as Denver Nuggets stun Chicago Bulls, 108-91: NBA Recap
The Chicago Bulls have been doing alright with Derrick Rose this season (12-4), but in the last two games, a major c***k in their armoury has been exposed.
A night after, the Bulls got outrebounded by 14 in a 102-101 overtime escape against the Toronto Raptors, the Denver Nuggets beat them 45-32 on the board and 54-24 on the points in the paint on their way to a 108-91 win at the United Centre.
The Nuggets were down by 8 right at the start, but came back to take a five point lead deep in the first frame. They managed to keep the Bulls in check before the break and then exploded with a 10-nothing run at the start of the second half to take control.
The Bulls never managed to come closer than eight after that.
The Nuggets overpowered the Bulls by their troika of guards. Ty Lawson pitched in with 27 points and brought down nine rebounds. He was hot in third quarter, scoring 9 points as the Nuggets started to pull away. The visitors outscored the Bulls 27-16 in
the frame and then went on to make the first five field goals in the fourth to consolidate their position.
The Nuggets were leading by 96-83 just seconds into the seventh minute of the fourth, before they pulled the trigger with six consecutive points and sealed the game.
Arron Afflalo added 22 for Denver while Andre Miller came off the bench for 12 points on a 6-of-8 shooting and 10 assists. Al Harrington also had 17 points and JaVale McGee chipped in with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
C.J. Watson scored 17 points to lead Chicago, which also got 14 apiece from Carlos Boozer, John Lucas III and Kyle Korver. Bulls got only 2 points and 5 rebounds from Joakim Noah and could never stop the Broncos from running to their throats. Head coach
Tom Thibodeau was a disappointed man after the home loss.
"If you let them get going they are a hard team to slow down," He said. "That was not our type of game. It was up and down, free and easy. ... We never got established defensively."
The Bulls will now face the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night and they need to be at their best to stop Joe Johnson and company. The Nuggets meanwhile take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
