Ty Lawson proves his loyalty with Denver Nuggets after playing his heart out – NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers made it into the second round of playoffs but their journey into the semi-finals was not that easy. Denver Nuggets hung tough throughout and especially their comeback after a 3-1 deficit was remarkable.
Lakers would have never thought that Nuggets, a team both young and inexperienced in contrast to them would come out with a swagger in the 5th and 6th game.  The thing that boosted
Nuggets was Ty Lawson’s stupendous performance.
He pretty much played like Kobe Bryant, approaching the rim in every imaginable way. He made big time 3-pointers and layups, and he recorded plenty of them. As a result he managed to average 19 points and 6 assists in 7 playoff
games against a resilient team such as LAL.
He was unstoppable from down town, just in the game 6 he connected 5-for-6 from the 3-point line and collected 32 points. Similarly in the 7th game when Nuggets were trailing by 16 points midway through
the 3rd the 24-year-old came up with 13 points in a row. Though fate was not kind and Lakers bagged the game but Lawson sent out a clear message, that he is an All-Star in making.
His performance has strengthened the chances for his contract extension. After 16.4 points per game season Lawson shines amongst the young lot. He is also hoping that the franchise will extend his contract this summer.
“It’s definitely a goal. I want to be here long term. I’m pretty sure my agent and Masai (Ujiri, the Nuggets’ executive vice president of basketball operations) will talk this summer.”
The only point guard to win ACC player of the year award has proven to be more than a mere point guard. He stepped up at the moment when Nuggets were looking shallow on the offense. Not only he can provide but he can score and
especially at the death.
The former University of North Carolina star, who steered his team to ACC regular season has evolved to the point where he can carry the team on his back. It is no secret that his performance was way better then Danilo Gallinari,
who is considered to be Nuggets prime scoring option. He averaged 13 points per game in playoffs while Lawson had 19 points per game.
Perhaps that was the reason Ujiri, the team's executive vice president of basketball operations acknowledged his talent and lavished him with praise.
“He's going to be a big part of the Denver Nuggets. We're excited. Ty is going to grow even more. He made a little jump, and he'll continue to make jumps as he gets older."
It seems that the franchise will be securing the young talent in the summer. With Lawson’s extension, Nuggets’ nation can count on one thing the game will be more exciting and thrilling than ever.
