Ty Wigginton improves sharply on plate and delivers for Philadelphia Phillies - MLB Update
In a miraculous turn-around on the plate, Ty Wigginton finds the New York Mets an ideal club to launch his firepower against. He has been quiet in the line-up throughout the season. Problems with his composure were becoming a constant source of trouble for
the Philadelphia Phillies' manager, Charlie Manuel.
However, he was just perfect on Monday. Making three strong connections in three at-bats, he led the charge against the Mets and got his side to a much needed win.
His stats in the season are much improved now. With a .256 batting average and 22 RBIs, he is well on his way to become an important link in the Phillies’ offence.
Every time the Phillies’ offence fails, experts start discussing Chase Utley and Ryan Howard and how their absence is marring the clubs’ progress. In the process, it is assumed that existing line-up is incapable of lifting them to victories.
However, what is more often forgotten is the fact that most of their hitters are going through lean period. Once, they take on their best, injuries that are being deemed to have affected the side will no more be part of the debate.
Belligerency Wigginton showed the other day was just a reflection of what the Phillies can be, regardless of injuries. Wigginton, along with Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino can formulate a formidable offence, one that can stand up against best of the pitchers.
Wigginton is excited and is ready to build on his terrific performance against the Mets on Monday. While he admits, he had some issues in the season but over the last few days, his attitude on plate has changed and this, he thinks, is a great sign going
into the next games.
“I’ve really started to feel good again lately,” Wigginton said, “and I knew it was just a matter of time … It doesn’t matter if you’re 0-for-4. You want to get another crack at it. You can’t get a hit sitting on the bench. You can’t get a hit from the side.”
Positive feelings, he is going to take into the next games, will help him achieve consistency. Thus, there is every reason to believe that, he is going to become a reliable hitter in the middle of the line-up for the Phillies.
