Ty Wigginton’s decisive RBI helps Colorado Rockies defeat Chicago White Sox 3-2 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ third baseman, Ty Wigginton had a notable day with the bat as he went 1-for-6 with an average of .267 and hit a final RBI in the Rockies’ 3-2 win against the Chicago White Sox at Coors Field, Colorado on June 28.
It was the pitchers day as they outclassed the batters on their respective throws. The mix-up of curveball and fastball really helped the pitchers as they delivered at the feet of the batters and they were unable to play shots. In the first inning, the score-board
remained empty due to the unbalanced shots of the batters.
The White Sox short-stop, Alexei Ramirez struck a solo homer (421 feet) at the top of the second inning to give his team an initial 1-0 lead. Third inning passed score-less but the Rockies’ batters tied the game 1-all during the fourth inning when Seth Smith
singled to left-centre field and Todd Helton hit a tie run. Troy Tulowitzki moved to second base at the end of fourth inning.
In the very next inning, the White Sox went ahead 2-1 when Gordon Beckham added one run on the double-run shot of Juan Pierre towards deep right-field and Gavin Floyd moved to third base. On the other hand, the Rockies replied quickly as they again levelled
the game 2-2 during the sixth inning when Smith hit a sacrifice fly off centre-field and Chris Nelson posted a tie run.
The game remained equal from the seventh to the 12th inning of the game as the additional three innings also went score-less due to superb throws of the pitchers. The Rockies’ starter, Jason Hammel was outstanding as he gave away two runs on six
hits including two earned runs in his seven inning pitches. He was unable to strike-out any batter and permitted two walks on 82 pitches.
In the 13th inning, Wigginton singled off centre-field and Tulowitzki contributed a leading run to end the game 3-2. Wigginton commented on his shot and said, “When you hit a ball like that, you're not expecting it to exactly fall in, but when
I saw where the outfielder was, and in this park when you're playing for no doubles, stuff can fall in.”
Floyd also pitched superbly for the White Sox as he allowed two runs on six hits during his seven inning pitches but that effort was not enough to snatch the game.
