Okay, I've been watching him for the past 3 years in the WHL and since he got drafted 16th overall for the Sharks.

For those really smart answerers out there, do you think he could be in the NHL next year?

  1. He needs at least a yr in the AHL. I'd look for him in 2yrs maybe. He has good size but I'll need to see more to evaluate his true potential.

I agree w/the guys above me. The Shark's depth also present's a wall.

  2. he seems to have a pretty good offensive touch, pretty good size, but i dont know any other aspects of his game, like hockey smarts, defensive skills agression, speed, so i cant tell you for sure

  3. Yes, i do, but i don't think it will happen.  Wishart has completely polished his game in the WHL, but i think a season in the AHL next year will be perfect for the youngster.  Besides, we already have a solid 6, well 5 unless you count Kyle McLaren (roll eyes).  Ehrhoff, Carle, Rivet, Murray, and Vlasic compose the 6.  Obviously Wilson will try to bring in a top defenseman either by keeping Campbell or by means of a trade/free agent signing as well.  So that doesn't really leave much room for Wishart on the main roster.  The kid is fundamentally sound and can probably challenge for a roster spot, but i think a year in the AHL will only make him that much better.

--Teal-- Haha, thank you!  We always see eye to eye on things!  Hopefully Doug Wilson got the memo from us to get rid of him!

  4. I agree with whats been said, he's a few years away still.  Then again I thought that about Vlasic too, but they're very different defenseman.  The problem I see is that depth at the position, you mentioned the current D-men: Vlasic, Carle, Murray, Erhoff, Rivet, and McLaren, not included the extra defenseman that Doug Wilson will surely add.  Carle and Rivet are already locked up longterm, Erhoff most likely will be, as will Murray and Vlasic, I can see McLaren being let go but that still leaves a spot out of 7 D-men.  Sharks also have guys like Petrecki coming up that they're keeping their eyes on.

  5. HIghly unlikely..............look for him to spend a year or two in the minors.

The 5 games he played in the 'A' last year isn;t going to help anybody evaluate him as a professional player

San Jose plans to sign Campbell and Erhoff, and with Rivet, Carle, Murray, Vlasic, and McLaren all under contract still, there is no real room for Wishart.  If they can't sign Campbell, look for them to make an offer for Redden.

  6. If he has a really good camp then he definitley has a good shot at making the team. But now is not the time to rush him, we already have a surplus of D-men. Also, if  we cant sign Campbell, I say we go after Bouwmeester, he says he wants out of Florida
