Question:

Tye-dye t-shirts?

So I'm making tye-dye t-shirts with about 70 kids on Friday. I've gotten all my supplies and have directions on how to do it, I just need some advise on how to make it go as smooth as possible. The kids have all brought in white t-shirts and they're all already split into age groups of about 12-18 kids per group, and each group has about an hour to do the project. I've never done tye-dye but I'll have another teacher who has helping me. Any tips and advice that would make it less hectic would be wonderful.

  1. Have five over-sized plastic buckets or tubs.  I use the 5 gallon ones because several people can dip  or soak the shirts at a time.

You may need to set specific times for your groups to do it.  Perhaps you could have one member from each group "draw Straws or lotto" to see who goes when in the craft.

Have lots of elastics ready to go.  Get them to mark their names oh the tag of the T-shirt BEFORE they begin.  Make sure you have a place to set and dry all the shirts.  We also do socks, towels, handkerchiefs, pillow cases.

    Have Fun!
