Tying your hair up when it's wet?

When I was a kid,

I was told that this can cause you to get lice

or something of the like.

My mom still tells me not to tie my hair up when it's wet.

Is there a reason I shouldn't do this?

Or is my momma buggin' ?

  1. Tying your hair up could in no way, cause you to get head-lice.

Whoever told you that is crazy.

  2. Lice just can't appear out of nowhere honey. The only way to get lice is to get it from somebody else that has it. Tying your hair up wet isn't a problem, I do it everyday.

  3. I've put my hair up wet for years and my hair is fine.

  4. Nope - it doesn't cause anything of the sort, but as your hair dries, it will tighten in the rubber band (or any hair accessory,) and that hurts. Your mom was probably just trying to keep you from getting some serious headaches.

  5. i cant see any reason not to i tie my hair up when wet and i never have had any problems.  You can only get lice from contact with someone/thing containing lice already. x

  6. No, getting lice is if you leave your hair down and sitting next to people with lice. Having your hai up wet does nothing to you. Infact, it helps it to dry quicker.

  7. it dont give you lice

but its not good for you hair ,

i cant rember why , but i no you shouldnt

    can you help me ?

  8. Going to bed with tied up wet hair can lead to a cold, everytime i got to sleep with a wet head i wake up with a sore throat UGH! You can't get lice from tying up your wet hair though.

  9. you will get a cold  or something thats wat my mom sed

  10. The only other reason I can think of to NOT do is the hair bunched in the middle wont dry as fast,. I have a friend.. she has really really thick hair.. and she ties her hair up after showers .. the hair doesnt dry as fast ... and just like wet laundry that stays out with out being hung to dry or put in the dryer .. its kinda gets that moldy smell....

  11. Actually tying your hair up when its wet prevents lice.  It is so tight when its up that they cannot get in... anyways how old are you before I go telling you not to listen to your mom.  She probably just doesn't like the way it looks..

  12. no she isnt my mom  tels me to and one day my hair stylist told me your hair rots wen its put in a bun while its wet!!

  13. Your mom is just "buggin' "

  14. HERE WAT IT CAN ACTUALLY DO

IF U TIE IT UP WHEN ITS WET YOU'LL

GET SOME pimples ON YUOR NECK ON THE BACK SO MY MOM ALWAYS TELLS ME NOT TO CAUSE THAT WILL HAPPEN

  15. hahahah, she's totally lying. i do it everyday. you can only get lice from someone that has it. the only thing that might happen is it gets a little tangled. but maybe your grandmother told her that and it just got passed down...

  16. Not a good idea. If your hair is wet and tied up, you could get a really bad headache. I tried it and I got an enormous headache.

  17. Putting your hair up when wet can cause damage and breakage to your hair.  The hair is more fragile when wet.

  18. lol your mom is definetly sketching the truth. The only way to get lice is getting it from someone else, you can get it whether your hair is down or up. I put my hair up in a pony tail after I get out of the shower and I dont have them.

  19. Hi I dont know why your mum would tell you that, I know that I was always told to keep my hair back for school so that I didnt get lice not that it can cause you to get lice, if you are not in school now etc and if there is noone  you know who has lice then you wont get them, I think you have just misunderstud what your mum was saying at the time lol

  20. I do it all the time constantly and i have never had lice in my life

  21. You can't get lice unless you have gotten it passed on by someone else it does not have anything to do with your hair being wet.

  22. hahahaha ok i had lice... yeah it was GROSS. no... i didn't get it from tying my hair up when it was wet. lice are living things, they're bugs in your hair and scalp. it's a pretty simple concept once you are informed... basically, they don't just pop out of nowhere. they get in your hair if you put something on your body that has them or their eggs on it. this includes clothes, brushes, hair accessories, etc. if you get eggs in your hair, they hatch and if you get the live bugs, they lay eggs which hatch. they don't pop out of hair bands just when your hair is wet, if they're in a hair band they pop out whenever. so if the thing you're tying your hair up with has lice in it or eggs, then they'll pop out regardless. and if they don't, then they won't even if your hair IS wet. and if you suspect that your friend has lice, and they used your hair accessories you can always microwave them in boiling water, that almost always kills everything. the eggs can last for a few weeks though, so just put the infected stuff in a sealed bag and leave um for about a month.

  23. Not cause you can get lice, but because it gives you a headache, and you can get sick something like that

  24. it does not dry as fast

and it can be bad for

your hair, i do it anyways

    but i blow dry, straighten,

and curl my hair so, its gunna

    get damaged anyway. but

you dont get lice from wearing

    ur hair up wet.

    :)

  25. I have been on a swim team since i was like 6, and after swim practice i put my hair up all the time!!!! I have never gotten lice!!! You will b fine trust me!!!

  26. naw its cradle cap.

its like a fungi on your scalp

i got when i was younger n always put my hair up wet.

  27. it does cause it, but it also makes ur hair look weird because u tie it up wen it's wet-it makes a weird style

  28. Your mom is right. When you tie your hair up, you are not letting your hair dry right, causing hummidity. Hummidity causes fungus. It happened to my friend.  Despite what other people tell you, the best thing id for you to take care of your hair and preventing it from any nasty stuff like that.

"Always brush your hair properly and tie when they are completely dry. If we tie wet hair, the moister and sweat left inside if doesn't dry can give problems such as lice and dandruff." look at link

  29. You won't get lice, from tying it up wet, I've been doing it for years.  It is a little harder on the hair itself but if you get the ends trimmed regularly this shouldn't be a problem

side note: if you have a reason to fear lice, oil your hair lightly that will keep the lice from being able to adhere to the hair.

  30. it breaks your hair becuase your its more weak when its wet.

  31. no lol. i always tie my hair when its wet no lice. I do know if you tie you hair when its wet it takes longer to dry (which yeh i know has nothing to do with it oh well lol)
