I take 8 or 9 grams of Tylenol/acetaminophen a day. I believe this is the maximum safe amount.

Today, however, I've taken 13 grams. I wonder if any liver damage occurred from this heightened dosage?

  1. I know a Pharcmacy Student who told me she had attended a class on the damaging affects of Tylenol. She told me how she see that people just don't know the  harm and damaging  affects Tylenol has the us.

  2. Over time all drugs cause liver damage..

  3. Ummm... If you do not have liver problems, the adult maximum dose of acetaminophen is 4 grams per day (4000 milligrams). If you take more than the maximum daily amount, it may cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease.

Usually, a *slightly* heightened dose for a day or two won't cause permanent liver damage, but I assume that you've been taking 8 or 9 grams a day for more than a week or two...

Everyone metabolizes drugs differently, too... I don't think anyone could tell you if you have liver damage from just the information that you've given us.  Would you go to your doctor and tell him/her that you've been taking this much and get some tests done?

  4. Why are you taking so much acetominophen?  8 or 9 grams a day is already too much to take--toxicity can occur at far lower doses than that.

If you are serious about taking this amount of Tylenol, you should see a doctor.  Liver damage is nothing to play around with.
