Tyler Biggs surely a great asset for USNTDP appointed as Captain
Tyler Biggs is one of the best players that the ice hockey world has seen and with the extraordinary talent that he has, he has been able to establish his position as a strong member of the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) Under-18
team.
Biggs possess dual nationality and is half American and half Canadian with his parents being Canadian. Nevertheless, his leadership qualities along with his performances have made him one easy pick out of the lot to be named as Captain of the Under-18 team.
"I've always been a guy who has led by example more than anything", said Biggs, who was born in Binghamton, N.Y. "I think if something truly needs to be said, I'm going to say it and my teammates understand that. But for the most part, staying positive on
the bench and keeping the guys going is all a part of being a captain”.
Biggs stands at 6’2 tall and with the 200 pounds that he weighs, some would think that he might be slow. However, this is by no means correct, as he is one of the quickest players and possesses the ability to attack the goal every now and then.
Biggs wants to become a player like his idol, Calgary Flames Captain, Jarome Iginla, and says that his strength and size are the two things that make him a standout player. He has done pretty well for the Under-18 team so far, as he has scored 19 goals,
scored 31 points and bagged 161 penalty minutes out of the 55 games that he has played so far.
His heroics have also been seen at the international stage that has witnessed him winning two goal medals during the recent Under-18 Championships. He was brilliant in the semi-final against Canada, as he scored two goals and bagged an assist in the game
that saw the US winning 5-4 in the end.
Biggs wears the same jersey number 22, that his father, Don Biggs, wore during his 16-year professional career. Don spent quite a lot of time with Minnesota North Stars and Philadelphia Flyers.
Before he became a part of the USNTDP Under-18 team, he was playing for the Toronto Junior Canadiens that saw him score 40 goals, 87 points, during 72 games he spent on the ice for the team.
