Tyler Chatwood gets help as Boston Red Sox come to Los Angeles
Tyler Chatwood of the Los Angeles Angels will be facing a tough challenge on April 21, 2011, when he will be starting for the home team against the Boston Red Sox.
With the Halos in the lead in the American League West table, there is little mistake to be made on messing up a good winning opportunity. This is why the 21-year old pitcher is seeking guidance.
The ball thrower is looking to some of the veteran hurlers in the mix for guidance and has availed some aid from two fellow Californians. Dan Haren and Jered Weaver are both looking to help the young player out. Chatwood is hoping to learn a few key pointers
from the aces and translate them on the mound perfectly.
"They've talked to me about all kinds of stuff", said Chatwood. "They've been really great about working with me on things, encouraging me.
"Definitely I'm going to try to be more relaxed than in my first start [a 4-0 loss to Cleveland on April 11]. I'll just try to control the game better, control my nerves.
"You have to be aware that you're going to have a lot of adrenaline, so you need to slow down and take deep breaths. I did a better job of that in Chicago. I was able to slow the game down, and that really helped".
The ball thrower was able to pull down the Chicago White Sox on his first outing, halting them to one run off five hits in seven innings of pitching. Now with the likes of Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, and, Dustin Pedroia, on the batting cards
against the pitcher, things will be different.
Chatwood was able to talk about the upcoming game and he clarified that he will go out and play the match according to the plan. He assured his peers that he will not let the fixture against Boston get to his head. He said emphatically that his primary focus
would be on getting the Angels a win.
