Tyler Clary dominates Men’s 200m backstroke semi-finals - London Olympic Games
American expert, Tyler Clary dominated the semi-finals of Men’s 200m backstroke on day five of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Wednesday, August 1.
Clary, who clocked a top fastest effort in the preliminary rounds of the discipline, continued his gruelling efforts in the second round and hit the wall for first position.
With his relentless efforts, Clary remained in a full body length lead over his strongest opponent and team-member, Ryan Lochte, and transpired on the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 54.71 seconds.
He was followed by Lochte, who stayed 0.69 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall for second best spot with an effort of 1 minute and 55.40 seconds.
Lochte was chased by Fenglin Zhang of China, who suffered a loss of only 0.26 seconds from his foregoing finisher and hit the blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 55.66 seconds.
The Chinese swimmer was followed by Ryosuke Irie of Japan, who stayed just 0.02 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end as fourth best qualifying swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 55.68 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland, who remained 1.06 seconds slower from his preceding finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 56.74 seconds.
Kawecki was chased by Kazuki Watanabe of Japan, who stayed 0.07 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall as sixth fastest swimmer by producing an effort of 1 minute and 56.81 seconds.
Watanabe was trailed by Mitch Larkin of Australia, who stayed 0.01 seconds apart and secured seventh position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 56.82 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was obtained by Yakov Toumarkin of Israel, who remained 0.51 seconds behind and completed his race with a timing of 1 minute and 57.33 seconds for eighth position.
Clary was contented with his top finish in the event and stated that he would try to sustain his spot in the playoff.
