Tyler Clary impresses in Mission Viejo: Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions 2011
Day two of the Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions 2011 got-off to a strong start with the impressive performance of Tyler Clary in his respective events at Mission Viejo in California, on June 24.
Initially, Tyler Clary of FAST picked up the top seed in the Men’s 200m back-stroke event with a sterling time of 1 minute and 56.25 seconds and broke Aaron Peirsol’s previous record of 1 minute and 58.11 seconds set back in 2003.
Kurt Bassett of New Zealand secured second spot in the respective meet with a time of 2 minutes and 01.66 seconds, while Chad Bobrosky of Canada rounded out the top three in 2 minutes and 05.33 seconds.
In another exciting Men’s 200m butterfly race, FAST’s swimmer, Tyler Clary took home the golden crown with a triumphant time of 1 minute and 57.32 seconds. Robert Margalis of FAST earned second spot in 1 minute and 59.43 seconds, whereas, Kyler Van Swol
of Minnesota settled third on the podium in 2 minutes and 00.69 seconds.
With his scintillating swim, Clary beat Ryuichi Shibata's previous record of 1 minute and 57.59 seconds. Clary was really excited and satisfied with his individual performance, as he was able to clock a time which was better than Shibata’s effort in 2005.
Melissa Ingram of New Zealand took home the Women’s 200m back-stroke title with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 10.81 seconds. Ingram also broke Tomoko Hagiwara’s previous record of 2 minutes and 11.27 seconds, which she made in 2000.
Kendryl Stewart of North Coast was placed second in the corresponding meet with a time of 2 minutes and 13.61 seconds, whereas, Genevieve Cantin of Canada touched the finishing wall third in a time of 2 minutes and 13.98 seconds.
Rose Bowl’s swimmer, Jason Lezak, captured the Men’s 100m freestyle title with a winning time of 49.71 seconds, while Blake Worsley of Canada claimed the silver spot in 51.26 seconds. Michael Haney of Claremont snared the bronze medal in a time of 51.47 seconds.
