Tyler Farrar eyeing a busy 2012 season with Team Garmin-Barracuda
Tyler Farrar is all set to start his 2012 campaign at the Tour of Qatar 2012 and the cyclist is currently training in Europe with his teammates.
As many as ten cyclists left Team Garmin-Barracuda by the end of 2011. Their absence will be hardly felt since Alex Rasmussen, Koldo Fernandez and Robbie Hunter signed up with the American team.
The 27-year-old is positive to ride the classics for the coming season and is keen to reunite with his old colleague Robbie Hunter.
Both the cyclists had a terrific partnership during the 2010 season before Hunter signed up with Team Euskaltel for the 2011 season.
While commenting on his new teammate, Farrar briefed that Koldo has represented Team Euskaltel throughout his career.
The cyclist finally decided to join the American team because his previous side never needed a sprinter as much as Team Garmin did.
The American started his professional career with Team Jelly Belly in 2003 and also represented Team Health Net-Maxxis (2004-05), Team Cofidis (2006-07), and Team Slipstream-Chipotle (2008) before finally moving to Team Garmin-Barracuda for the 2012 season.
He won the second and the third stage of the Tour de France 2011 and also claimed the point’s classifications at the Volta ao Algarve.
Tyler claimed the second stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, along with the third overall position at the Dwars door Vlaanderen.
The 27-year-old briefed about the season ahead, “We know that we need a guy who is good from 1.5km to 1k, then one guy who is good within the last kilometre and then the final lead out man. You know the roles so it’s a case of finding the riders that fit
those roles”.
He further added, “When you look at our roster this year we have plenty of guys for each of those roles. You can’t race with the same four riders in every race all year around”.
The 2012 season will probably be the busiest season for the American rider. He is targeting the stage races, Grand Tours, classics as well as the London Olympics for the season ahead.
David Millar, Sebastien Rosseler and Nathan Haas will also ride for Team Garmin to make it one of the strongest teams for the coming season.
