Tyler Farrar out of Tour of Britain 2012 and possibly the World Championships
Tyler Farrar of Team Slipstream-Chipotle, who was riding the Tour of Britain to fine tune just ahead of the UCI Road World Championships, has now been dropped out of the race just ahead of stage 2.
Team Doctor Prentice Steffen briefed that the cyclist is still struggling from the stage 1 crash and might not be able to finish the race.
"Tyler was unable to take the start at the Tour of Britain today after crashing heavily during stage one, significantly hitting his head and suffering a severe concussion," Steffen said.
"The team has a strict head injury policy and protocol and Tyler continues to undergo evaluation. Team medical staff is working closely with him to monitor his condition".
The 28-year-old had a good start to his 2012 campaign with as many as five victories in his bag in the first half of the season.
His peak form was evident at the recent USA Pro Cycling Challenge, where he succeeded to claim the point’s classifications and two stages at the American race.
Farrar also secured a stage each at the Tour of Utah, Tour of Qatar and the Giro d’Italia along with a second overall position at the Tour of Qatar and the Scheldeprijs 2012.
The American was chosen to represent his nation at the UCI Road World Championships in Netherlands this year but the crash has now raised ambiguities towards his involvement.
The event starts on September 16 with the team time trials event and the cyclist was named for the road race event on September 23rd.
