Tyler Farrar’s Vuelta a Espana finishes at stage 8 – Cycling Update
Tyler Farrar of team Garmin Cervelo was unfortunately caught in an accident towards the end of stage 7 as he crashed with just 100 metres to go at Talavera de la Reina and his team was confident that the cyclist will start the stage 8 as he has not suffered
any major injuries.
The 27-year-old is well known in Flanders and has been very impressive throughout his career as Farrar has the honour of winning the stages in all the three grand tours.
Farrar fell on the ground after the crash as he was trying hard to cross Michal Golas and required his team-mates help to cross the finish line at the stage 7 of Vuelta a Espana 2011. The cyclist was taken to hospital soon after the race to determine if
there were any major bone injuries caused by the crash.
Luckily for the cyclist there were no major injuries found but he suffered from serious bruises on his hip as he started the stage 8 of Vuelta a Espana 2011.
It was not long to go as Farrar gave the Vuelta a Espana 2011 after 35 kilometres in the stage 8. He had been unlucky this year as the American had also withdrawn the Giro d’ Italia earlier this year because of Wouter Weylandt’s death who was his training
partner and a close friend. Tyler however has seen success in the Tour de France 2011 as he managed to secure a stage 3 win along with a win in team time trials.
Vuelta a Espana is the only race before the World Championships as it gives the players their only opportunity to prepare for the event and the top 9 cyclists from every team are participating in the event. Team Garmin Cervelo entered the Vuelta a Espana
with Fischer Murilo, Haussler Heinrich, Klier Andreas, Le Mevel Christophe, Martin Daniel, Talansky Andrew, Van Summeren Johan, Vanmarcke Sep and Tyler Farrar who has now abandoned the tour.
Team Garmin Cervelo hence is participating in the race with 8 riders in their squad and is not the only team who has suffered from this loss. It will be interesting to see how teams approach the Vuelta a Espana 2011 as it is entering the second phase.
