Tyler Greene’s homer helps St. Louis Cardinals defeat Houston Astros 6-5 – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals short-stop Tyler Greene struck his first home-run of the season as the Cardinals defeated the Houston Astros 6-5 at Minute Maid Park in Houston on April 27.
Greene was in place for Ryan Theriot who suffered a rib cage injury and missed the roster from the previous games. Greene took an RBI single and had one run on two hits. In the fourth inning, Matt Holliday also hit a home-run towards the left-field position
and led off the Cardinals 1-0. He played a key role as he went 3-for-4 to start his scoring account. With the solo homer of Greene, the Cardinals were on top with 2-0 lead in the fifth inning.
There was no score in the sixth inning for both the team. Then during the seventh inning, Nick Punto hit a two-out double including a single run that resulted in a 3-0 lead for the Cardinals. Jon Jay also added a single run before the sacrifice hit of Kyle
Lohse.
The Cardinals overcame the Astros in the whole seventh inning as Punto played his role in stealing second base before the hit out of David Freese. The Cardinals’ aces Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman and Holliday each scored back-to-back singles and extended
the lead 6-0. The Astros got rid of Yadier Molina by a ground out and stopped the Cardinals lead extension.
The Astros opened their account when Joe Inglett had a double and trailed his club with 6-1 during the eighth inning. Carlos Lee was unable to score a single run while Hunter Pence made a single for the Astros. Brett Wallace hit a solo RBI single and pushed
the Astros to 6-3 in the eighth inning. Wallace had a single with one out in the fourth inning but it proved meaningless for the Astros.
Chris Johnson struck a long fly towards the right-field position and took the trail to 6-5 at the end of ninth inning. The Astros starter J.A. Happ gave away two runs on five hits including two earned runs and five strike-outs in five pitched innings. Enerio
Del Rosario permitted three runs on four hits in just one inning pitches and sent the Astros way back from the victory.
