Tyler McGill captures Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day two – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Stockholm
World bronze medallist, Tyler McGill captured the title of Men’s 100m butterfly on the final day of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, on Sunday, October 16.
Stockholm event is the second stop of seven-stage World Cup series managed by international aquatics sport governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
USA’s McGill emerged as the most furious swimmer of the four-lap butterfly event. With his extraordinary efforts and mind blowing swimming, he was able to grab the gold medal of the event.
The 24-year-old McGill’s title was threatened by a South African swimmer, Chad Le Clos, who earned six gold medals in the first stop of World Cup in Dubai.
The American swimmer has a fantastic start, which provided him a slight lead over his competitors in the first 15 metres of the swim. With his tremendous efforts and wonderful coordination, McGill completed his first 50 metres of the race in a time of 24.00
seconds.
He remained marginally away from his rival, Le Clos, who was just 0.04 seconds slower from him, posting a time of 24.04 seconds for the equivalent distance. The duo initiated a head-to-head race in the second half, where McGill added another 0.07 second
to his lead by completing his swim in 27.04 seconds to submit 51.04 seconds on the board for gold medal.
He was followed by Le Clos, who remained just 0.11 seconds behind him and secured the podium for silver medal by ending his swim in a time of 51.15 seconds.
In the meantime, Le Clos experienced a tough competition from his following swimmer, Geoff Huegill of Australia. Huegill remained 0.21 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 51.36 seconds for bronze medal.
The session completed after the conclusion of all scheduled events while the winners were called upon the podium for their invincible efforts after the session.
Furthermore, McGill expressed contentment over his victory in the 100m event and made his fans happy by saying that he will try to defend his title in future events.
